Seven companies in Tuscany challenge the nautical market
Nautilus, this is the name of the project financed by the region of Tuscany according to the announcement of competition named “Prai Vinci”. Technology and innovation for the nautical industry. The University of Pisa is a partner in the project in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of Massa-Carrara and the Cna of Massa-Carrara.
Nautilus (Network And Unit To Investigate Labour Under Standing) is the project developed according to the announcement of competition “Prai Vinci” financed by the region of Tuscany (€ 250.000) which involves 7 small/medium-sized companies in the business of plant engineering, power center and industrial automation located in the Apuan-Versilian area. The project will be also developed with the contribution of two important Departments of the University of Pisa- the Dipartimento di Informatica Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni (Department of Information and Telecommunication) of the Faculty of Engineering, and the Dipartimento di Economia Aziendale (Department of Business Administration) of the Faculty of Economics and Trade – in partnership with Cna of Carrara and the Camera di Commercio Industria e Artigianato (Chamber of Commerce, Industry ,Craft Trade) of Massa-Carrara. Nautilus is a “virtual” structure created by seven small/medium-sized companies which united in order to present themselves to the nautical market with an innovative offer as far organization and technology are concerned.
Nautilus, a union of small/medium-sized companies aims to create a structure for the development and improvement of management (in Italy the nautical sector features only a few companies dealing with all aspects of the production cycle of shipbuilding. Main production focuses on big size cruisers, and most of businesses are very small companies providing specific products and services) in order to implement innovation technology , organization, research and development.
In the perspective of the region of Tuscany, the chance for small/medium-sized companies to overcome the difficulties due to their limits (among which are lack of financial resources and investments) is an important objective. Currently, about hundred people - electronic and information technology engineers, project engineers and workers - work for the Nautilus organization, but this number is expected to increase if the results will show achievement of the project’s goal. In this way seven small/medium-sized companies became one. “Complementarity” is the key word of Nautilus, the project which will provide the tools for the consortium to manage the electric and electronic supplies for shipbuilding.
