The other Tuscany at table
Sheraton Rome Hotel & Conferente Center – Eur Rome ( 22nd – 26th October 2007)
The local products of the Lunigiana region leave their territory and arrive in Rome, at the Sheraton Rome in the heart of the EUR, their first journey across Italy to be discovered by gournet conoisseurs and tourists alike. In this appetizing journey, acacia and chestnut honey, that is the only Italian Dop honey (Protected Designation of Origin), lard of Colonnata, lamb of Zeri, beans of Bigliolo, onions of Treschietto and other such specialities, as “torte d’erbi” and “testaroli”, will be accompanied by typical breads from the province and the nectars of the Colli di Candia and of Lunigiana.
The discovery of these delicacies outside of their region has been organised by “Comunità Montana della Lunigiana” in collaboration with the Province of Massa-Carrara and with the Camera di Commercio and Tuscany promotion. The event can also thank the Minister of Agriculture.
For a week, from the 22nd until the 26th October, at the Sheraton Rome in Viale del Pattinaggio 100, Rome (tel. 06/54531), in the ‘Sala Tre Fontane’ with it’s pastel interior and enourmous glass windows which looking out onto the private swimming pool, guests of the hotel but also visitors will have a distinguished menu rich of the typical dishes from the Lunigiana region at their disposition. Both the wines and the side dishes will serve as perfect accompaniements to the menu.
Mr. Vittorio Marcelli, Counciller of “Comunità Montana della Lunigiana”, underlines: “This is the first in a series of events dedicated to promoting Lunigiana and it’s rich area of culture, tradition and excellent specialised products which merit to be known internationally”.
The dishes suggested by the Sheraton will be prepared by chefs trained at the ‘Istituto Tecnico Alberghiero “G. Minuto” di Marina di Massa and will embrace the high quality of all the ingredients along side the deep knowledge of the products and the traditional recipes.
During the event, will be presented the book “Vermentino, vitigno che sente il mare”, written by the Professor Mario Fregoni, professor at the University of Piacenza and Honoary President of the Office of International Vineyards and Wine and Pierpaolo Lorieri President of the ‘Strada del Vino dei Colli di Candia e Lunigiana.’
The discovery of these typical regional dishes will begin a jouney from the main hall of the hotel until the entrance of the dining room area by using a series of large panels. Also the “Opera House” the theatre group from Oslo carried out by the Campolonghi of Massa-Carrara which uses the marble and the local workforce as well as the ‘Colomba’, a sculpture full of symbolism created by the artist Pietro Cascella, whom the region of Lunigiana choose as their resident artist. This sculpture is famous for having flown with the Russian space ship Soyuz.
