Access and Links
Strategically placed, the province of Massa-Carrara takes full advantage of its central geographical position on the main traffic lines from the Tuscan coast to the Iberian peninsula. It is also an important junction with links leading from the Po Valley in the interior to Northern Europe. The principle motorway and rail networks are present as well as a commercial port connected to the multi-transport centre ‘Centro Retroportuale Apuano’
AirportsAt a distance of less than 50 kilometres, the international airport of Pisa, whose national and international flights guarantee arrival to the most important Italian and European cities in two hours at most. Among the destinations: London, Brussels, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Bonn, but also Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona, Cologne, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Hanover, Liverpool, Manchester, Munich, Oslo, Stuttgart and Tirana.

The area is intersected by important roads: from North to South the A12 along the coast (also known as the E1), which stretches from Northern Europe down to the southernmost tip of Italy; from East to West, the A15 Parma – La Spezia, which connects the coast with the great motorway junctions leading to the North and the Brenner Pass. The Province is also crossed by the Aurelia along the coast, by the Cisa (SS 62), going through the Apennines towards Parma, by the SS 63 meeting the Cerreto Pass (a famous ski resort) on its way to Reggio Emilia and by the SS 445 which connects the hinterland of Lunigiana with Garfagnana.

The sea highway leaves the port of Marina di Carrara and connects Tuscany with the main ports of call in the Mediterranean, in the Middle and Far East, in the Baltic and the United States and South America on the other side of the Atlantic.
