Geo-demographic information
The Province of Massa Carrara has a growing population. In 2004 for the first time this went over the threshold of 200,000 units. The increase concerns the coastal area above all, which, with its 144,600 residents, reaches its highest figure from 1990 to today.
Massa alone, and this is something of an feat, registered an increase of 2.3%, reaching the number of 69,504 inhabitants. Carrara, with 65,017 inhabitants is the second centre of the Province. Here, the largest age group is that of between 30 and 34, and these figures give an indication of the particular dynamism of the city.
In Lunigiana, the Communes of Aulla, Fosdinovo, Licciana and Podenza all show a constant increase in population due to their proximity to areas in firm economic development.
