The mechanical engineering section, with particular reference to the production of machines and mechanical equipment extends to 67% of the export totals with its figure of 938 million of euro. In the last few years, the sale of machinery for the quarrying and working of stone materials has been backed up by the production and exportation of machines and appliances for the production and exploitation of mechanical energy.

The machinery and equipment produced are of very high quality from the technological point of view and we are speaking mostly of plants, appliances and services for the gas and petroleum industry.

At the end of 2004, we can note that about 20% of the total outlet was to the European Union; followed with identical figures by North Africa, North and Central South America, the Far East, the Middle East, the Pacific and Central Asia. The traditional geographical areas of exportation have been matched and sometimes even exceeded by emerging nations, which goes to show that the globalisation of the markets has found the local productive framework well-ready for the challenge.
