The goal is to free the centre from the traffic created by off-highway trucks.

Carrara - the first stretch of the Strada dei Marmi is now ready. This eagerly awaited infrastructure will free the town centre from the about seven hundred trucks which daily cross Carrara in order to reach the quarries.

The Major of Carrara Giulio Conti opened the first one and a half kilometre of this road in which 23 million € have already been invested and which is expected to cost a total amount of 100 million €. 1.351 meters out of a total length of 1.430 meters were build inside a tunnel, the other 79 were build on a brand new viaduct. The second and last stretch of the Strada dei Marmi is being built.
