Free time
The province of Massa-Carrara offers a great number of cultural, naturalistic, sports and wine and gastronomic attractions which allow you to make the best of your free time both during the summer and the winter period.
Tourism:
Among the principle places of interest are the quarries, the artistic marble workshops, Lunigiana and its castles and the Apuan Alps.
Recently the wine and gastronomy itineraries have been coming to the fore with their discovery of ancient flavours.
The province is also a setting out point for numerous excursions to the Tuscan cities of art and to those in nearby Liguria.
The sea and the beaches:
During the summer season facilities, beach clubs, tourist harbours as well as restaurants and places of entertainment are active along the 5 km of sandy coastline.
Cultural events::
Various kinds of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions and theatre are regularly organized in the territory (above all in the summer season).
We would like to point to the provincial review of theatre, music and dance ‘Lunatico’ and the Biennial Sculpture Exhibition in Carrara as well as to the important exhibitions in the Palazzo Ducale in Massa.
Sports:
The sea makes for sports such as sailing, canoeing and swimming, while it is possible to practice an incredible number of sports in the provincial sports facilities – like soccer, tennis, small side soccer, athletics, basketball and many others.
The Apuan Alps are a natural training ground for the most demanding walks and all connected activities.
Trekking trails on foot or horseback connect the hills along the coast with the interior of Lunigiana and the other stopovers of the Apennines.
There is also the small but friendly ski resort of Zum Zeri as well as the nearby resort of Cerreto.
The international green of the Versilia Golf Club of Vittoria Apuana (LU) also borders on the province of Massa-Carrara.
Shopping:
There are many shops and shopping malls present in the territory as well as regular weekly markets and antique markets..
Night life:
There are many night spots on the territory and in nearby areas.
